EartHand Gleaners Society
EartHand Gleaners Society is an arts-based non-profit that "uses a community-engaged model for creating environmental art projects with opportunities for research, skill development and skill sharing" and models how to be a maker without first being a consumer. I have had the privilege of being mentored by Sharon Kallis, founding Executive Director, on various projects and continue to learn engagement methodologies and technical skills from her.
My involvement with EartHand in Vancouver included my role as Stewardship Co-ordinator, engaging the public in the stewardship of two urban green spaces (MOP and Trillium North) growing art materials, and additional involvements including as guest instructor on various courses and the creation of plant signage for the gardens with help from Tracy Williams for the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) language spellings and Susan Russell for the Hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (Downriver Halkomelem) language spellings of each plant.
